About Russell

A Lifetime of Service to Greenville

Russell StallEighteen years ago I returned to my hometown of Greenville.  Before coming home, I spent 16 years in Washington, DC and then Atlanta. The Greenville I left as a graduate of Greenville High School in 1978 was nothing like the Greenville I returned to, and is certainly nothing like the Greenville we enjoy today.

Greenville has become the envy of communities throughout the country because of intentional, visionary planning, and engaged leadership.

I have dedicated much of my life to serving Greenville. In 1978, as a senior at Greenville High, I served as the Youth Coordinator for Max Heller’s congressional campaign.  At that time, I made a pledge to Max that one day I would run for office. Since returning to Greenville in 1998, I have been deeply committed to the improvement of this community I care so deeply about. I have dedicated my life to service to Greenville.

Twelve years ago I created Greenville Forward, a nonprofit organization responsible for facilitating and shepherding a community vision for Greenville. Focusing on creating a Greenville that is a learning community, creative, connected, green, innovative, healthy, and inclusive, Greenville Forward built relationships and connections within the community that continue to make Greenville one of the most livable communities in the country.

I am running for City Council because I am passionate about Greenville and understand ways we can continue to improve. My long history of listening to different voices from all over our community will insure that Greenville is a place where all people can thrive.
